Transcript of the Quark Girls Song.

I'm Up-Quark!The Quark Girls from Kenilworth School
I'm Down-Quark!
I'm Top-Quark!
I'm Bottom-Quark!
I'm Strange-Quark!
I'm Charm-Quark!

It's been the same throughout history,
Your kind can't stand a mystery
You're always asking the question why,
You're a human being, that's no surprise,
But as soon as the question begins to form,
A new understanding begins to dawn-
A new way of seeing, of being in the world,
Without asking questions you'll never learn!
But who's got the answers I hear you say,
If you want to find the truth you've got to find a way
Of testing & trying out hypotheses
To see if you can find out the best of these
& Science has done this since times long gone by
Looking for the answers, looking for a way
To get new explanations of why the world's this way
It's not enough for scientists to simply say
"Cos God says" 'cos even if he does we still don't know
How he gets it to happen, how he makes it go
It's a matter of matter & energy
Of cause & effect & gravity
Of atoms & molecules, protons & neutrons
Of mesons, electrons, neutrinos & photons
Of frequency, wavelength & velocity
Of experiment & measurement & accuracy
Of observation & study & argument
Science has a logical development
It doesn't ask you to believe it tries to show you why
In the depths of the ocean or the heights of the sky
With telescopes & microscopes with brain & eye
Scientists struggle with the mystery.
But if you ask us, in the end, why we do what we do
(We Quark Girls, the smallest of the particles you know)
The reason for everything, the ultimate source
The meaning of existence & the universe
Well science doesn't know because that just won't fit
Into Chemistry or Physics or arithmetic
We think it's all just fun it's just an great big game
& it's all the more exciting 'cos it hasn't got a name
Science knows the rules but it just doesn't know why
We play it in the first place! Bye Bye!
